We are Stories of Roots

Stories of Roots (SoR) is a socially-engaged-artwork aiming to bring a shift against racism and any other social oppression.
SoR invites you to explore people’s stories. We offer Omusubi and its workshops. It is a place where people meet different people.

Through making or eating Omusubi, people will embrace relational, cultural and symbolic values of identities of yourself as well as others. SoR believes knowing the stories enables us to re-humanize.

How did SoR start?

SoR was started by Miyu Yamamoto (Heo), a socially engaged artist, using food as  her art tool to enhance intercultural understanding.
Based on her difficult time back in a school age, her urge has been to change the society to open for diversity. After her study in Education and working experienve in various Educational fields, she started Stories of Roots as a part of her research in Master Artist Educator in the Netherlands. Her research focuses on sensational activities using body/mind as not separation, and an empathic pedagogy to make a shift.
